himself >> heather: president set to attend a memorial service in newtown shortly after his arrival before addressing the nation in what will be the fourth speech that he has had to make from the site of a mass shooting during his first term as president. now, we're going to go to chief white house correspondent, ed henry with the latest from there. >> reporter: you are right. you heard the police officials talking about the intent, security presence here in newtown. relatively small town that has had a horrible few days here, obviously the president trying to help heal the wounds a bit, perhaps tonight at a prayer vigil. he left andrews air force base and be arriving behind me at the high school soon. bottom line he will be doing a series of things. one thing as he will be meeting privately with family members of some of the victims. so many of them small children. you remember the president on friday grew emotional in the white house briefing room, choking back tears, stopping at one point during his remarks as he specifically talked about the young children affected here. after meeting

begin with the search for a motive. it is clear friday's shooting in newtown, connecticut can have no rational explanation. the act itself is the definition of insanity. still at this hour, investigators are work to unravel the sequence of events that ended with a man killing his own mother, driving to an elementary school and murdering 26 innocent children and adults before committing suicide. right now it's all still a puzzle. but investigators are working to assemble it. law enforcement source tells the associated press teams are going through the short's computer and checking phone and credit card records in an attempt to figure out what he was doing and what he was thinking in the days and weeks before this attack. >> we did seize significant evidence at the residence. we are analyzing and will analyze. it's a very pain-staking process. >> a spokesman says the shooter took classes at community college when he was 16 years old. apparently did well. an intelligent young man by all accounts. on friday, something went very wrong in his head. police say he murdered his mother while

in newtown, connecticut. a town in mourning to say the least. the images that we have seen throughout this town are heartbreaking. makeshift memorials on several street corners. everything from teddy bears to candles to flowers and angels' wings. it is a beautiful community here. just so quiet and pristine and you call it because what you can hear about newtown, connecticut, and it is so filled with grief. it is only the beginning, though, as this town prepares to bury those who were killed on friday. there will be so many burials. the first of the funerals begins today at 1:00 p.m. these would beautiful children, jack pinto, noah pozner. it is going to be a tragic several weeks. no one knew that more than president obama who came here to speak to this town at a touching memorial last night. >> surely we do better than this. if there is even one step we can take to save another child or another parent or another town from the grief that'ses have e visited tucson, aurora, oak creek and newtown, communities from columbine to blacksburg before that, surely we have an obligation to try.
